Google Calendar
Connect Google Calendar, choose which classes sync and how they look, and see what we write, change and leave behind.
Connecting Google Calendar puts your class times, assignments and study blocks in the calendar you already check. We keep them in calendars we create for you, so nothing gets mixed into the ones you already have.
Connect and sync
Everything happens on one page, Calendar Sync, in four steps: Connect, Classes, Options and Sync. You can step back at any point with the arrow beside the title.
Open your dashboard and click Sync to Calendar. If you don't see it, add a class first — the button shows up once you have one.
Under "Where do you want your classes?", click Google, the card marked "Full sync". The first time, we send you to Google to sign in. Allow calendar access and leave the Google Calendar box checked — without it we can't create anything.
You come back to Calendar Sync with "Google Calendar connected!" and land on Classes. If we say "Calendar access wasn't granted", click Google again and check the "Allow access to Google Calendar" box this time.
Under "Pick your classes", click each class you want in Google. The count at the bottom reads "N new · M synced". Click Continue.
Under "How should it look?", choose how your events appear — see Options below — and click Continue.
Check the summary under "Ready to sync" and click Sync to Google Calendar.
We sync one class at a time — "Google limits how fast we can go" — and show each class as Queued, then a progress bar, then Done. Creating a calendar takes about 15 seconds. You don't have to watch: click Continue in background and we tell you when it's finished, or if a class ends up marked Needs attention. When everything is in, the page says "All synced 🎉" and takes you back to your dashboard.
Coming back for more classes
Once you've connected, clicking Google on the Connect step goes straight to Classes. Classes already in Google carry a SYNCED tag and stay checked; pick the new ones and continue. If you don't pick anything new, we skip straight to the last step, where Update all and Done live.
Options
The Options step has two settings. They apply to every class you sync, already-synced ones included, not only to the classes you're adding right now.
- Meeting times, described as "Weekly color blocks", is on to begin with. It adds your class periods to Google as weekly events, and the preview under it shows a few days of your week in your class colors. It's greyed out when none of the classes you picked has meeting times. Turning it off later removes the meeting events we already made.
- All-day, "Top of the day", or At the due time, "Ends when it's due", decides how assignments appear. All-day is the default and shows the assignment on its due date like a holiday. At the due time makes it a short event that ends at the exact minute it's due. Reminders are the same either way.
What we put in Google
- One calendar per class, named after the class with "- DG" on the end, in the class's exact color. Change a class's color in Due Gooder and the calendar follows the next time that class syncs.
- Your class meetings, when Meeting times is on: weekly events named with the class emoji and name plus "- Class", with the room and instructor when we have them, and a popup 10 minutes before.
- Your assignments, as an all-day event or one ending at the due time, with an email a day ahead and a popup an hour ahead. Mark one complete in Due Gooder and its title picks up a ✔️. Assignments with no due date don't get an event.
- Your study blocks and other time blocks, together in one calendar called "Timeblocks - DG", with a popup 10 minutes before each. That calendar isn't part of the Classes step; it fills up on its own as you create blocks.
How edits flow
Due Gooder is the source of truth for everything it created. Add, edit, complete or delete an assignment on a synced class and the change reaches Google in the background, usually within a minute. Time blocks go over as you save them.
Make your edits in Due Gooder
Changes travel one way — nothing you do in Google comes back to Due Gooder. Rename an assignment event or move it in Google and we put our version back; delete one and we recreate it. Events you add yourself to a "- DG" calendar are left alone. Delete a whole "- DG" calendar in Google and we take that as removing the class from sync, so use Rebuild below if what you wanted was a fresh copy. Your other Google calendars and the events in them are never touched.
Look after a synced class
Once something is synced, the Connect step lists your classes under Connected calendars, each with three buttons:
- Re-sync this calendar brings the class's calendar back in line with what we have, and says "Re-syncing" while it works.
- Rebuild this calendar from scratch deletes the Google calendar and creates a fresh one. Use it for leftover or duplicate events a re-sync doesn't clear, or after you change when a class meets. We ask "Rebuild [class]'s calendar?" first: anything you added to that calendar yourself is deleted too, and if you shared it, people need the new link. Click Rebuild calendar to go ahead.
- Remove from Google Calendar deletes the class's "- DG" calendar and everything in it. There's no confirmation, so click it when you mean it. Unchecking a SYNCED class on the Classes step does the same thing. The class and its assignments in Due Gooder aren't affected, and you can sync it again later.
A class marked NEEDS ATTENTION hit a problem on Google's side; re-sync it, and if it keeps happening, see common fixes. NO CLASS TIMES means the assignments synced but the meeting times couldn't become events, usually because a period starts and ends at the same time. Fix the schedule on the class and re-sync.
To refresh everything at once, go through to the last step and click Update all. It checks every synced class and your time blocks in the background; "Update started" means the work has begun, not finished, so give Google a little while.
If your dashboard says Use New Cal Sync
We changed how synced calendars look — due dates as all-day events instead of a sliver, class emoji on class blocks, calendars in your exact class colors. If you synced before that, the dashboard button reads Use New Cal Sync. Click it and then Resync Cals to update the calendars you already have. Nothing gets deleted, and it runs in the background.
Archiving a class removes its calendar from Google too. Unarchive it and sync it again to get a fresh one.
Disconnect Google
Find Google. When everything's in order it reads "Connected • Calendar access granted", with the address you connected.
Everything we made stays in Google exactly as it is. Unlinking stops the updates, it doesn't clean up. If you want the events gone, remove each class under Connected calendars before you unlink. That clears the class calendars but leaves "Timeblocks - DG" behind, so delete that one in Google yourself — or delete every "- DG" calendar there and skip the sync page.
