Your first week

The short list after your first import: check the dates, connect a calendar, turn reminders on, and know where to look.

Your first syllabus is in and your classes are on the dashboard. Work through this list before the first deadline lands; each step links to the page with the whole story.

Read the dates back

Open the Classes tab on your dashboard, pick a class, and read its Assignments list against the syllabus. Reminders, calendar events and the due-date counts on your dashboard all run on these dates, so a quick read-through now saves a mess later.

If one of them is off:

Find the assignment under To-do this week on the dashboard, or on its class page.

On the dashboard, open Assignment actions and choose Edit. On a class page, anything still under Not Completed has a pencil button that does the same thing.

In Edit Assignment, fix the Due Date and Due Time, then choose Save Changes.

An assignment with no date stays on its class page

When we find an assignment but no due date for it, we still create it. It won't show up in the weekly list, in Due Soon or on your calendar until you give it a date.

More in assignments & due dates, and in upload a syllabus if something came through wrong in the first place.

Connect your calendar

On the dashboard, choose Sync to Calendar — it appears once you have at least one class — and pick your calendar app on the Calendar Sync page.

  • Google, the card marked "Full sync". Sign in with Google once, pick which classes to sync and how they should look, and we make one Google calendar per class in its color, plus a "Timeblocks - DG" calendar for your study blocks. Make your edits in Due Gooder; changes made in Google don't come back to us. See Google Calendar.
  • Outlook and Apple, marked "Feed link". You pick classes and options the same way, then generate one private link and paste it into your calendar app, which decides how often to check — usually every hour or few. See subscribe from Apple or Outlook.

If your school posts assignments in Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, Brightspace or Sakai, you can point us at that calendar feed too. Link LMS, in the Add Classes dialog, carries a Pro badge and takes a feed from any of those or another calendar link: import from your LMS.

Get the app and turn reminders on

Push reminders are set on the phone, not in your browser.

Install Due Gooder from the App Store or Google Play, and sign in with the same account.

Tap the gear to open Settings, then tap Notifications under Preferences.

Turn on Enable Notifications and allow them when your phone asks.

Under Assignment reminders, pick Basic, Moderate or Extreme, then pick a Morning summary time. 30 min Before Class is already on.

Check your timezone too

On the web, open Settings → Notifications and look at Account timezone under Timezone: "Reminders, daily emails, and calendar syncing all use this timezone". Pick yours from the list, or choose Use this device to follow the timezone of whichever device you sign in from.

The full set of options, plus the daily email, is in notifications & reminders.

Where to look each morning

The Schedule tab on your dashboard is the one screen worth opening daily:

  • three counts along the top — due today, due this week, and overdue. Click one to open the list behind it.
  • To-do this week, every dated assignment for the week with a checkbox.
  • Today, your classes, your timeblocks and any timed events from a connected Google Calendar, with Previous day and Next day to move between dates.

Due Soon in the left rail is the shorter version: five upcoming assignments you haven't checked off yet, nearest first, with a slider to show more or fewer. Anything already overdue stays out until you turn on Show Overdue, and Filter by Class narrows it down. With the morning summary on, your phone sends the day's list at the time you picked, or up to 14 minutes after; a long list gets cut short with a count of what didn't fit.
