Flashcards
Generate a set from your class materials, study it, and read what your ratings say about each topic.
Flashcards come out of what's already in your Locker: you pick a class and up to five materials, we write the cards, and you study them here.
Flashcards come with AI Pro. If your plan doesn't include them, the Flashcards tab shows "Get AI Pro to unlock this feature", and closing that leaves you on Duedles, which everyone has.
Every set is generated
There's no blank card to fill in yourself, and a card can't be edited once it's written. If a set comes out wrong, delete it and generate another one.
Where your sets live
In the sidebar, Locker → Flashcards lists every set you've made with a card count and when it was made. Under that sit the topics we found in the set, or the card types when a set came out without topics. The list is on Newest First until you change the sort.
To see one class on its own, open the class and click Study. Its sets sit under Flashcard Sets, and Create New Set there skips the class question.
Make a set
In Locker → Flashcards, click Create Flashcard Set. Before your first set, the button reads Create Your First Set.
Under "Create study materials", open Class, pick one, and click Continue. It says "Checking materials..." while we look at that class.
Under "What do you want to study?", open a category and tick up to five materials. A sixth one gets you "Maximum 5 materials". Click Continue.
Give it a name under "Name your flashcard set" and click Continue.
Under "Customize your cards", choose your Card types and drag How many cards?.
Click Generate 20 Cards. The number on the button follows the slider.
Card types are Q&A, Vocabulary, Definitions, Examples, Formulas and Concepts, and the first three are on to start with. The count runs from 5 to 50 in fives and starts at 20.
Only materials we've finished reading show up in the picker. A class with none says "This class doesn't have any materials yet. Upload materials to generate flashcards or practice tests." and offers Upload materials first. With no classes at all, the button on the tab reads Add a class first.
You can also open the generator from a class's Locker: click Search, pick a result, and click Flashcards. The generator starts at "What do you want to study?" with nothing ticked, so choose your materials again there.
While we write the cards
"Generating flashcards..." pops up, and the set joins the list right away as a progress card: its name, a bar, how many cards we're writing, and a rough countdown — something like "~1.5 min remaining", which becomes "Finishing up..." if the job runs longer than we guessed.
You don't have to sit there. Wherever you are in the app, we tell you when your flashcards are ready and give you a View button that opens the set.
If a flashcard set or a practice test is already going, starting a set gets you "You already have a generation in progress. Please wait for it to complete."
If one falls over you get "Flashcard generation failed", and the set card reads "Generation didn't finish. Delete this set and try again."
Study a set
In Locker → Flashcards, click a set. The cards come up shuffled and the header counts finished cards against the size of the set, so a 20-card set starts at "0 of 20 finished".
Read the question, then click the card or Reveal Answer to turn it over. Space or Enter flips it too.
Say how it went: Again ("Didn't know"), Hard ("Barely got it"), Good ("Got it") or Easy ("Knew it cold"). Keys 1 to 4 do the same, which is what "Space to flip · 1-4 to rate" under the buttons means.
Again slots the card back in up to four cards later so it comes round again in the same sitting; Hard, Good and Easy finish it for the session. When we know which file a card came from, that file's name sits under the answer and opens in a new tab.
Your ratings go into your analytics as you go, but we don't hold your place: open the set again and it reshuffles and starts over. Finish the queue and we tell you how many of the set's cards you got through, then your analytics open on their own.
Read your analytics
Hover a set and click Analytics, or use Analytics in the corner of a study session. The buttons on a set only show on hover, so on a phone the session header is your way in.
Overall Mastery is a percentage and a band: Struggling below 40%, Learning from 40% up to 60%, Practicing from 60% up to 80%, and Mastered at 80% and above. Under it, "Based on 20 studied cards" counts the cards you've rated, and when some cards are still unseen it adds how many.
That percentage comes from where each studied card stands now, not from how many you got right. Cards you've never seen stay out of it:
- A card you last rated Again or Hard counts as "needs work", worth nothing.
- A card you've rated Easy every time counts as "mastered", worth full marks.
- Any other card you've studied counts as "learned", worth three quarters.
Topic Mastery gives each topic that same band, the counts behind it ("4/4 seen", "1 mastered", "3 learned"), and Improving, Stable or Declining once you've rated it in two sessions. Topics you've studied come first, weakest to strongest, and anything you haven't touched sits at the end. Topic Coverage draws those scores as a web once three topics have a card you've studied, and Confidence Over Time turns up once two sessions have ratings in them. Sets whose cards came out without topics say Type Mastery and Type Coverage, split by card type instead.
A set you've never studied says "No study sessions yet" and offers Study Set.
Study starts a session
Study and Study Set record a study session as soon as the set loads, so your session history can grow even if you go straight back.
Delete a set
Hover the set in Locker → Flashcards and click the trash can. Delete Flashcard Set warns that this "will permanently remove all flashcards in this set", then Delete Set goes ahead and Cancel backs out.
